Hello friends! For the last week or two I have been painstakingly searching the internet for paint colors to use in the new house. Like I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been mainly using Pinterest. This is turning out to be one hell of a task, since there are sooooo many colors I like!!!! I think my biggest problem is going to be not getting a head of myself and just picking all the colors I think are cute and ending up with a home that looks like a clown was hired as my interior decorator.
Owing to the fact that I have never had an entire house to paint before, I’ve always looked at painting on a room to room bases. Obviously not the mentality to have when taking on TEN individual rooms that need to flow as one! My Pinterest searching was beginning to get overwhelming… if you check out my Wall Colors board, I’ve got about 124 things pinned. How is someone supposed to go through that and pick out ten colors that work cohesively together?!?! Oh, no idea? Yea, me either!
BUT… I recently stumbled upon a fantastic blog post titled Create a Paint Scheme Floor Plan by blogger Shelly. IDK why I hadn’t thought to do this before! It’s basically a tutorial on creating a floor plan of your home to “test” out your paint colors all in one area. This is what her mock template turned out looking like.
So I decided to try it out myself. I know what I want but I feel like they are contradicting wants. :/ In one simple sentence, I want something calming and relaxing with a touch of rustic farmhouse. Now lets get into my nit picky opinions, I love the farmhouse look but don’t like when every wall is painted white. It ends up with a sterile feel at times and I just don’t think I would be able to pull it off. I don’t want to end up having my home feel like a hospital when I walked in. I really love the whole greige look that’s so popular too but I want there to be some color as well. I also love raw wood and metals anywhere and everywhere! Think I can accomplish all that?
Turns out I might just be able to! After picking a floor plan that looked very similar to my house, I then picked the top ten colors I liked. Choosing from only my most recent pins since searching through 124 posts would be insane! And I came up with this beauty!I think I’m pretty pleased with the end result. I will of course have to buy paint samples and test the colors out in real life, but as the first step, I am really happy with it. I no longer feel “in over my head”, so that’s a plus!
I will get the actual paint names up soon… I just kind of took them off of Pinterest and now have to go back and look for the names.
Stay tuned, there’s more to come!
